Ocean City Boardwalk Reconstruction Project
The Town of Ocean City is completely reconstructing the boardwalk over the next two years. The first phase was recently completed and consisted of the complete replacement of the boardwalk and its substructure from 27th to 15th street, and the replacement of boardwalk decking and repair of any damaged substructure between the inlet and Somerset Street. Next year, beginning in October 2012, we will rebuild the rest of the boardwalk.
The new boardwalk will have a stronger structure to allow heavier vehicles and fire trucks to ride the entire length of the boards. From North Division to 27th Street, the boardwalk will also use a new deck board pattern to identify the tram lane.
Phase two, from 15th Street to Somerset Street, will begin on October 8, 2012 with completion expected in April 2013. In addition to the complete replacement of the boardwalk, the Town will be constructing a new comfort station and performance stage on the Boardwalk at Caroline Street next year.
If you have any questions or a specific concern regarding access to your property or business during construction or any problems during construction, please contact the Engineering Department at 410-289-8855. We understand that construction work can be disruptive, but hope you will agree that it is necessary and well worth it to have a new boardwalk that everyone can be proud of for many years to come. Your patience and understanding during the work is greatly appreciated.
