Pedestrian Safety Campaign

SAVE YOURSELF!
Ocean City Walk Smart! Campaign Launches for
Safe Summer with Crab Lifeguard Ambassador
Watching over Coastal Highway.

Ocean City Walk Smart

If your summer travel plans include surfing Coastal Highway – Crab the Lifeguard is watching over Coastal Highway this spring and summer to keep pedestrians safe in Ocean City, Maryland. A partnership between the Town of Ocean City, Ocean City Police Department, Maryland State Highway Administration and other local businesses and agencies created the Walk Smart! campaign to turn the tide on the recent wave of pedestrian crashes - complementing engineering and enforcement efforts to keep Ocean City residents and visitors safe this summer.

The Walk Smart! campaign is an effort to safeguard our beach visitors. Unfortunately, even while on vacation, the grim reality of a traffic crash or incident can leave a wake of tragedy. The efforts of this campaign are focused on making sure visitors reach the beach safely, and stay safe so that they can enjoy their vacations and get home again.

Special outreach will be focused on “Senior Week” visitors through a partnership with the Play It Safe campaign from June 1 – June 14.  T-shirts and other items with the “walk smart” message will be distributed at events designed to safely entertain high school graduates.  If you are parent of the member of Class of 2014 visiting Ocean City this summer, please remind your child to be cautious when crossing any roadway, to use marked cross walks and to avoid distractions when walking or driving.
