Ocean City Emergency Services monitoring current forecast

imagesThe National Weather Service and the National Storm Prediction Center have placed the Ocean City area under a Hazardous Weather Outlook Alert for Thursday, June 13 2013 with a 45% probability of severe weather.   Ocean City Emergency Management will be monitoring this system and working closely with the Maryland Emergency Management Agency to provide updates as required.

According to the current forecast, thunderstorms are possible as early as Wednesday afternoon and into Wednesday evening, June 12.  On Thursday, June 13, there is a moderate risk for severe thunderstorms in the afternoon and early evening.  While rain amounts are expected to be low, citizens should expect windy conditions.

Residents should secure lawn and pool furniture, trash cans and other outdoor items that could become flying projectiles during the storm. Those who do not have to travel should remain indoors until the storm passes. In preparation for potential power outages, citizens should keep non-perishable food items handy. Also, load fresh batteries in flashlights and radios and stay tuned Thursday to local radio and TV stations for updated weather information and any warnings that may be issued as a result of the storm.

Ocean City Emergency Services will continue to update residents and visitors on the forecast as needed.  For more information or to read about storm preparedness, please visit:  http://oceancitymd.gov.
