Town of Ocean City advising citizens to prepare for Significant Weather

Ocean City Emergency Services is continuing to monitor the projected path of the summer storm, expected to be in the Ocean City area this afternoon.  Currently, an outbreak of severe storms is anticipated between 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. this evening.  While minimum rainfall is probable, the primary threat will be damaging winds of 70 mph or higher.  In addition, large hail and isolated tornadoes are possible.

“There is potential for damaging wind conditions,” said Joseph Theobald, Emergency Services Director for the Town of Ocean City.  “There is a possibility of power outages, significantly sized hail and isolated tornadoes.  It’s important for residents and visitors in Ocean City to be prepared and stay informed.”

The Town of Ocean City reminds residents, businesses and visitors to make plans in advance to prepare for the possible effects of the storm.  Citizens are reminded to make sure cell phones and other portable devices are fully charged and consider purchasing and charging spare batteries. Also, it’s important to have a disaster supply kit with bottled water, non-perishable food (with a hand-operated can opener), a first aid kit, portable radio and flashlight with extra batteries, toiletries, special items needed for pets or infants, prescription medicine, a change of clothes and bedding. The kit will be helpful if you have to evacuate quickly or if you are without power.
