OCEAN CITY POLICE COUNTERFEIT INVESTIGATION LEADS POLICE TO SEPARATE SUSPECTS

On Saturday, July 6, 2012, Ocean City Police began investigating several subjects passing counterfeit currency in the downtown area. 

In two separate cases, officers responded to businesses on the boardwalk where counterfeit $20 bills were recovered.  Police recovered four counterfeit $20 bills, from the two different locations, with matching serial numbers IL 3595791D. OCPD detectives were able to link the cases together and were able to recover surveillance images of two persons believed to be involved in the passing of the counterfeit money.

Anyone who may know the identity of these suspects is asked to contact the Ocean City Police Departments Criminal Investigation Division, DFC Perry at: 410-520-5439.

Ocean City Police are asking that residents and businesses contact the department if you locate suspicious currency. The OCPD reminds citizens that almost all modern legitimate currency should have; watermarks, security threads and color-shifting ink marks. For additional information about counterfeit currency identification, citizens should go to http://www.secretservice.gov/know_your_money.shtml  or www.moneyfactory.gov  In addition; the department reminds businesses and community groups that a crime prevention officer is available to conduct counterfeit awareness presentations upon appointment through the Public Affairs Office.
