The Chieftains @ OC Performing Arts Center
Mar 5 @ 7:30 pm – 8:30 pm

Six-time Grammy Award winners, The Chieftains, are coming to the Ocean City Maryland Convention Center Tuesday, March 5, 2019. Highly recognized for reinventing traditional Irish music on a contemporary and International scale, The Chieftains have the ability to transcend musical boundaries to blend tradition with modern music that has notably hailed them as one of the most renowned and revered musical groups to this day.

As cultural ambassadors, their performances have been linked with seminal historic events, such as being the first Western musicians to perform on the Great Wall of China, participating in Roger Water’s “The Wall” performance in Berlin in 1990, and being the first ensemble to perform a concert in the Capitol Building in Washington DC. In 2010, their experimental collaborations extended to out of this world, when Paddy Moloney’s whistle and Matt Molloy’s flute travelled with NASA astronaut, Cady Coleman, to the International Space Station.

Although their early following was purely a folk audience, the range and variation of their music and accompanying musicians quickly captured a much broader audience, elevating their status to the likeness of fellow Irish band, U2.

After fifty years of making some of the most beautiful music in the world, The Chieftains’ music remains as fresh and relevant as when they first began

KOMEN MORE THAN PINK WALK @ Inlet Lot & Boardwalk

2019 KOMEN OCEAN CITY MORE THAN PINK WALK
Saturday, April 13, 2019

7:30 am: Celebration Village Opens
8:20 am: Survivor Parade
8:30 am: Open Ceremonies
9 am: Walk Begins

Ocean City, MD – Susan G. Komen Maryland told supporters to expect some changes at its annual fundraising walk next spring. Komen has been hard at work on the next evolution in the history of the Race for the Cure® series, and residents of the Eastern Shore will be among the first in the country to see it!

Komen Maryland has selected to be one of twenty-six locations across the country to launch the new Susan G. Komen MORE THAN PINK WalkTM event, which along with a new name will include a fresh new look and experience focused on energizing the community around the lifesaving work Komen’s supporters make possible. This new approach is based on input from participants across the country, data from nine pilot events in 2018, and by Komen’s own observations from years as the leader in breast cancer walks.

“Much of what you have come to love about the Race will continue with our new MORE THAN PINK Walk,” said Michael Jessup, executive director of Komen Maryland, “These changes are intended to increase people’s connection to our work beyond breast cancer awareness. Together, we are more than pink–a community of people who want to do more for research, more for our communities, more for those among us who are living with breast cancer – including metastatic breast cancer – and more action to get us to cures.”

The biggest difference is that the MORE THAN PINK Walk will not have a separate timed run element, focusing instead on the vast majority of the event’s participants who walk, rather than run, during the event historically. This change will create a greater sense of community among participants and will provide a more personalized, emotional experience for all who attend.
$20 registration fee through Walk Day!

All survivors will receive a complimentary t-shirt and a surprise gift to use in the opening ceremonies. All general participants will receive a surprise gift to use in the open ceremonies but must fundraise $100 to receive a t-shirt.
