FISCAL YEAR 2022 PROPOSED BUDGET
ENGINEERING AND BEACH REPLENISHMENT
Six full-time employees are budgeted in Engineering. A step increase beginning January 1, 2022 has been included. Benefit costs for retiree health and retirement increase for this division, while health insurance and worker’s compensation costs decrease.
CHANGES IN OPERATIONS:
Payment to the State of Maryland for the beach maintenance fund is the largest expense in Engineering. A payment of $432,419 was made in FY 20, and a payment of $442,321 was made in FY 21. Payments to the fund are estimated by the Department of Natural Resources, who have estimated the FY 22 payment at $450,000. Contracted Services include payments for consulting services for traffic data, legal fees attributable to this division and equipment lease. Legal fees have been included at $15,000 for FY 21. The Chicago Avenue bulkhead geotechnical investigation was included in the FY 21 budget at a cost of $25,000. Supplies and Materials have been budgeted at the same level for FY 21. Vehicle Supplies and Repairs are budgeted to increase and include $6,000 for a cap, bed organizer and safety lights for a new survey truck purchased through Vehicle Trust. Allocations for radio equipment lease and insurance increase for this division, while vehicle lease and the allocation for IT services decrease.
MAJOR 2021-2022 PROGRAM OBJECTIVES:
The City Engineer has the oversight of the Engineering and Beach Replenishment divisions. Responsibility for the Town’s Capital Improvements Plan also falls under the City Engineer. Projects for FY 22 include additional Canal Dredging, the Convention Center expansion project, continued oversight of the Town’s parking system, and Chicago Avenue bulkhead replacement. Other duties handled by this division include stormwater/grading issues, energy management, traffic calming solutions, and windfarm consultation.
