AUXILIARY OFFICER PROGRAM

An auxiliary officer is a civilian that is trained to support the police department and serve the citizens of Ocean City by providing volunteer services to supplement regular law enforcement personnel. The Auxiliary Unit was initiated in 1999 and since then, volunteers have donated over 70,000 hours of service to the Town of Ocean City.

Common tasks that Auxiliary Officers are assigned include:

    •  Traffic control details during events and parades
    • Added security during special events such as Springfest, Sunfest, and Winterfest of Lights
    • Administrative and data entry assistance
    • Assistance with community policing programs such as R.A.A.M. (Reducing the Availability of Alcohol to Minors) and Citizens Police Academy

To become an Auxiliary Officer, citizens will be required to complete a background check and additional training specific to the duties of an Auxiliary Officer. Citizens interested in becoming a volunteer Auxiliary Officer should contact the Public Affairs Office at 410-520-5395 or email [email protected]
