BENCH DEDICATION PROGRAM

The Dedication Bench Program is “at capacity” at this time.

HISTORY:

The Town of Ocean City, MD began its Bench Dedication Program in 2004. In 2016 we placed the last order of new benches on the boardwalk adding to the grand total of nearly 1,000 benches.

HOW CAN I GET A BENCH?

The Dedication Bench Program is “at capacity” at this time. There are no plans to expand the program. Bench locations and the overall Dedicated Bench placements/assignment locations were made years ago and, due to the success of the Program, ALL spaces have been sold. As of this date (November 01, 2021), the “Wait List” for those desiring to purchase a Dedicated Bench is approaching 700. In all reality it will take over a decade, or more, (and that is a Best Guess) to ever fulfill the current Wait List. Therefore we are no longer accepting any additional applications.

For those currently owning a Dedicated Bench the Town has assigned a 10 Year Term for the life expectancy of the bench. As the end of the Term approaches you, as the bench owner, will be notified of its pending expiration and be provided one of three Options you must act on. Those Options are:

    • You can make payment to have the Bench restored and the Town will have the restoration completed. The current location of its placement will remain unchanged OR
    • You can decide not to make the restoration payment and you will be required to remove the bench from the boardwalk, with prior notification to the Public Works Maintenance Department. Selecting this Option will then allow the Town to make an Offer to those on the Wait List to make a purchase for the specific location being vacated OR
    • You can decide not to make the restoration payment and inform the Town you are donating the bench back to the Town. Selecting this Option will then allow the Town to make an Offer to those on the Wait List to make a purchase for the specific location being vacated.
