OCEAN CITY, MD – (November 8, 2017): Another effort to improve pedestrian safety is underway in Ocean City as median enhancements commenced this week on Coastal Highway. The Maryland State Highway project, which began Tuesday, is expected to be completed before the summer of 2018.
“It’s exciting to see construction on the new median fence along Coastal Highway,” said Ocean City Mayor Rick Meehan. “We know the first phase of the project, including the removal of trees in the median, will look alarming but the addition of overhead lighting and ornamental fencing will be a true enhancement to safety for both drivers and pedestrians.”
As part of the project, the entire median will be removed to allow light pole foundations, fence pole foundations and conduit runs. Once demolition of the median is complete, the installation of the LED overhead lighting, new landscaping and fencing will be scheduled. “We have made great strides to improve pedestrian safety over the last several years,” finished Mayor Meehan. “This project is another great example of our commitment, and the commitment of the State of Maryland, to keep our residents and visitors safe on Coastal Highway.”
