Ocean City, MD – (July 24, 2017): This week the National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA) announced Ocean City Recreation and Park’s Surf Camp photo as the winner in their second week of the NRPA Play Challenge Photo Contest.
The month of July celebrates National Recreation and Parks Month, and the NRPA is celebrating by hosting a weekly photo contest encouraging people to show why play is so important in their lives. Each week of the month of July parks and recreation agencies across the nation have been submitting photos according to a theme. During the first week agencies submitted photos representing how they got their play on at their local parks, and during the second week agencies submitted photos in how they combine learning and play.
Each day Ocean City Recreation and Parks (OCRP) submitted a photo into the contest representing how the department believes in each theme, and on Friday, July 14, a photo of Surf Camp participants learning how to surf on Ocean City’s famous beach while of course having fun was shared, which resulted in OCRP being chosen as the winner in week two of NRPA”s Play Challenge Photo Contest out of hundreds of parks and recreation agencies throughout the nation.
“Ocean City Recreation and Parks was very excited to help share the message of how learning and playing can be combined in a fun way,” Ocean City Recreation and Park’s Marketing Coordinator Joanne Shriner said. “Thank you to NRPA for the opportunity.
Moving forward, this past week parks and recreation agencies nationally continued to submit photos into the contest following in the theme of advocating for their local parks, and on the fourth week photos will be submitted showing agencies favorite way to play at their local parks and rec.
Visit www.nrpa.org/July for more information on how to participate. Entries can be submitted via the hashtag #NRPAPlayChallenge. NRPA also encourages all people that support parks and recreation to share why they think play is so important with the hashtag #PlayOnJuly.
