Ocean City, Maryland – (July 26, 2017): Summer is going out with a BANG in Ocean City, as an upgraded fireworks show has been added to the season ending of the resorts popular Sundae’s in the Park event. The grand finale, which will take place at Northside Park on Sunday, September 3, will also feature live music and activities for children, along with the 9 p.m. fireworks display.
The opportunity to upgrade the fireworks during the Labor Day event came after a disappointing glitch during the highly anticipated Fourth of July fireworks shows, both downtown and at Northside Park. “We encountered an unfortunate malfunction during our Independence Day fireworks shows, but we are excited to have the opportunity to make up for that experience and provide the quality fireworks presentation our residents and visitors have come to expect,” commented Ocean City Mayor Rick Meehan. “Our special events team has been working closely with Image Engineering, the city’s current fireworks provider, to celebrate Labor Day and produce a marvelous farewell of our summer season.”
The popular Journey tribute band, Separate Ways, will take the Sundaes in the Park stage at 7 p.m. to kick off the evening, and will perform until the fireworks begin. Also adding to the excitement, Maryland Natural Resources “Scales & Tales” will participate in the event, with kid-friendly exhibits and educational displays. Inflatables will also be available for children’s enjoyment at a small fee. With panoramic views of the bay, spectators are encouraged to bring a picnic basket and chairs and enjoy ice cream sundaes (available to purchase as part of the Sundaes in the Park event series). Northside Park’s 58 acres include a children’s playground, fitness area, walking paths, paddle boat rentals, food and beverage concessions, soccer fields and softball fields.
“Sundaes in the Park has grown to be one of the summer’s most celebrated events,” finished Meehan. “I can’t think of a better summer finale for families to enjoy live music, a bayside sunset and a patriotic firework show in Ocean City!”
