Ocean City, Maryland – (October 26, 2017): Jamie Falcon, a Sergeant with the Ocean City Beach Patrol, recently gave an oral presentation at the World Conference on Drowning Prevention in Vancouver, Canada. The event was hosted by the International Lifesaving Federation and is co-sponsored by the World Health Organization.
In his acknowledgements, Falcon thanked Ocean City’s Department of Public Works, Wastewater Management, the City Engineer’s Office, along with Captain Arbin of the Beach Patrol. “This is a problem at coastal resorts around the world,” commented Falcon. “I’m happy to have contributed an empirical study of this little understood problem.”
The conference took place October 17-19. Included in his presentation, Falcon gave the results of his Ph.D. dissertation which he defended last year. The research is titled Evaluating Near Shore Spinal Injuries and Alternatives to Reduce Their Occurrence.
