Ocean City Museum Participating in Giving Tuesday

Ocean City Museum Participating in Giving Tuesday

OCEAN CITY, MD – Nov. 23, 2021 – The Ocean City Life-Saving Station Museum will take part in Giving Tuesday on November 30. Recognized as a worldwide philanthropy movement empowering organizations to better their communities, Giving Tuesday encourages donating to local nonprofits and charities following the kickoff of the holiday shopping season.

Through the power of The Shore Gives More, 121 Ocean City nonprofits are participating in the global day of generosity. The Boardwalk’s Ocean City Museum, lauded as the premier historical organization in Worcester County, is seeking the public’s support to continue carrying out its mission of preservation and education.

“The Ocean City Museum Society is a 501c3 nonprofit responsible for funding many of the museum’s programs and special events,” said Museum Curator Christine Okerblom. “The funds raised during Giving Tuesday have allowed the Museum Society to produce programs and events that inspire an appreciation for Ocean City’s cultural history.”

Specifically, funds will benefit the museum’s monthly Little Learner’s program, which welcomes young children and provides interactive engagement with local history and wildlife.

“This program builds community as it brings together Moms, Dads, and Grandparents, who attend with their little ones, and in turn, they establish new relationships with one another,” Okerblom added.

The event runs online for 24 hours, but pre-gifting opens to the public on November 22.

Launched by The Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore in 2015, the local Giving Tuesday campaign has grown exponentially from just 23 groups in its inaugural year. In 2020, the community raised more than a quarter-million dollars to benefit Delmarva organizations and hopes to build on that momentum this year.

The mission of the Ocean City Museum Society is to inspire and support the interpretation and appreciation of the cultural and natural history of Ocean City, Maryland, the Worcester County coastal region, and equally, the historical role performed by the United States Life-Saving Service, and to preserve with subsequent mandate the 1891 structure that once served as the Ocean City Station.
