(March 4, 2015) – Ocean City is under a Winter Storm Warning, effective Thursday at 6 a.m. on Thursday, March 5, until midnight. According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, VA, Ocean City will experience snow and sleet. The projected wintery mix will begin late Thursday morning and last throughout the evening hours.
Snowfall and sleet accumulations are expected to reach between 3 to 6 inches, with north winds averaging 15 to 20 miles per hour, with gusts reaching 25-30 miles per hour. Rain will mix with sleet by early Thursday morning, transitioning to a mix of snow and sleet by the late morning. By midafternoon, the precipitation will become all snow, lasting until the early evening.
The Town of Ocean City’s Winter Storm Plan is in effect and the Emergency Management personnel are continuing to monitor the storm. Due to the combination of heavy snow, gusty winds and very cold temperatures, travel is strongly discouraged late today and tonight.
