Lengthy Prison Sentences for Involvement in Ocean City Boardwalk Assaults
Ocean City, MD- (June 8, 2021): Over the past several months, seven assault suspects have pled guilty to Second Degree Assault in the Worcester County Circuit Court. The charges stem from two assaults that occurred on the Ocean City Boardwalk in June of 2020. All seven suspects have received lengthy prison terms for their involvement.
On June 9, 2020, between 10:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m., Ocean City Police Officers responded to two assaults on the Boardwalk at 11th Street and 15th Street. Officers determined that the same group of individuals were responsible for both assaults.
The Ocean City Police Patrol Division and Major Crimes Unit used multiple investigative techniques to identify and arrest the suspects. Surveillance images and video obtained from the City Watch Cameras System were released to the public through social media and local media outlets. Ocean City Detectives received numerous citizen tips and also worked closely with local police jurisdictions throughout the Eastern Shore of Maryland to identify the seven suspects. In addition, officers received cell phone videos of the assaults used to help identify the suspects.
The following individuals have been sentenced for their involvement in these incidents:
- Marquis Trajon Demby, 23, Lincoln, DE, sentenced to 10 years in prison.
- Marcus Dashawn Butler, 28, Cambridge, MD, sentenced to 10 years in prison with all but 7 years suspended.
- Orlando Manship Nichols Jr, 21, Cambridge, MD, sentenced to 10 years in prison with all but 6 years suspended.
- Xavier Jamal Spencer, 20, Cambridge, MD, sentenced to 10 years in prison.
- Daveione K Cephas, 21, Cambridge, MD, sentenced to 10 years in prison with all but 6 years suspended.
- Cortez Murray, 24, Easton, MD, sentenced to 10 years in prison with all but 6 years suspended.
- Kabreon Nichols, 19, Cambridge, MD, sentenced to 10 years in prison with all but 5 years suspended.
The Ocean City Police Department would like to thank the numerous citizens who assisted them in identifying the suspects in this case. In addition, a special thanks goes out to fellow law enforcement agencies, Maryland State Police, Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office, Cambridge Police Department, and the Easton Police Department for their cooperative effort in this investigation. Lastly, we would like to thank the Worcester County States Attorney’s Office for their hard work and dedication to see each of these cases through to the end.
