LPR Alert Leads to the Recovery of a Stolen Vehicle
Ocean City, MD- (June 11, 2021): On June 10, 2021, at approximately 04:34 a.m., Ocean City Police Communications issued a broadcast to officers that the License Plate Reader (LPR) alerted them that a stolen vehicle was entering Ocean City eastbound on Route 50.
Officers were in the area of N. Division Street and Baltimore Ave when they observed the vehicle from the broadcast at the stoplight at N. Division Street. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle in the area of 3rd Street and Baltimore Ave. The vehicle failed to stop and fled northbound on Baltimore Ave. Officers pursued the vehicle to the area of 45th Street and Coastal Highway. Due to safety concerns related to vehicle speeds, the pursuit was called off. After the termination of the pursuit, the vehicle was observed by officers turning onto Hitchens Ave. The three occupants of the vehicle fled on foot. All three suspects were located in the area, two of which were located on private property marked with “Private Property No Trespassing” signage. All three suspects were taken into custody without incident.
With the combined efforts of the LPR system, police communications personnel, and the quick response of patrol officers, the following three arrests were made:
- Jasmine Rolonda Carter, 19, Valley Lee, MD: Motor vehicle/unlawful taking, unauthorized removal of vehicle, theft $1,500 to under $25,000, reckless endangerment, obstructing & hindering, driving vehicle on highway at speed exceeding the limit by 1-9 mph, reckless driving vehicle in wanton and willful disregard for safety, driving vehicle in excess of reasonable and prudent speed on highway, attempt by driver to elude uniformed police, failure to drive vehicle on right half of the roadway when required, driver failure to obey designated lane directions, driver fail to stop at steady circular red signal, driver failure to stop at stop sign line, driver fail to make required stop, driver failure to obey properly placed traffic control device, driving changing lanes when unsafe, negligent driving, attempt by driver to elude police in official police vehicle and attempt by driver to elude uniformed police by fleeing on foot. Carter was seen by a Maryland District Court Commissioner and held without bond.
- Shaekwon Talib Jackson, 20, Lexington Park, MD: Motor vehicle/unlawful taking, unauthorized removal of vehicle, theft $1,500 to $25,000, obstructing & hindering, trespass-posted property, attempt by driver to elude police in official police vehicle by fleeing on foot, and attempt by driver to elude uniformed police by fleeing on foot. Jackson was seen by a Maryland District Court Commissioner and released on an unsecure bond of $3,000.
- Antonius Austin Cartnail, 20, Lexington Park, MD: Motor vehicle/unlawful taking, unauthorized removal of vehicle, theft $1,500 to $25,000, obstructing & hindering, trespass-posted property, attempt by driver to elude police in official police vehicle by fleeing on foot, and attempt by driver to elude uniformed police by fleeing on foot. Cartnail was seen by a Maryland District Court Commissioner and released on personal recognizance.
