Ocean City Beach Patrol Employment Opportunity,
Pre-Employment Testing for Summer 2023
Ocean City, Maryland – (October 2022): The Ocean City Beach Patrol (OCBP) will hold a pre-employment physical skills evaluation (testing) on Saturday, October 8th to fill openings in the 2023 roster. The pre-employment evaluation is being held in Ocean City, in the area of Dorchester Street and the beach. There are no pre-certification requirements and experience in ocean rescue is not necessary to apply. All training and certifications will be provided in your choice of a paid ($18.44 hr.) Surf Rescue Academy, which is being conducted in Ocean City, beginning May 21, 2023, or a later academy on June 18, 2023.
Registration / check-in for the test begins at 9 a.m. on Dorchester Street and the Boardwalk. Each candidate will have a wellness check (including body temperature) before being accepted to participate in the testing. After orientation and an English language proficiency test, applicants will participate in a full day of testing. Candidates will run 300m in the soft sand, swim 400m in the ocean, perform simulated swimming rescues, and demonstrate strength and endurance abilities over the course of the day.
Although pre-registration is not required and walk-ons are welcome, candidates are strongly encouraged to pre-register for the test by visiting www.JoinBeachPatrol.com. Candidates must be at least 16 years old to take the test and be 17 years old by June 19, 2023 to be hired by the Beach Patrol for next summer. A valid driver’s license, birth certificate, age of majority card, or U.S. passport is required at the time of registration. Without proper proof of age, applicants will not be permitted to participate. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a legal guardian during the entire testing process.
Following the physical skills evaluation, those meeting qualifying standards are eligible for appointment to one of two Surf Rescue Training Academies (SRA), which will be conducted in Ocean City beginning on May 21st and June 18th of 2023. The SRA includes eight days of training and conditioning during which all certifications required to be a Surf Rescue Technician will be earned. We pay $18.44 per hour while in Surf Rescue Academy.
