The Town of Ocean City Is Offering Plant Grants for the Beach District Area and Pollinator Gardens
Ocean City, MD – (March 11, 2024): The Town of Ocean City is accepting mini-grant applications for Beach District plants and Pollinator Gardens. The beach district plants are for planting in the dune area and the pollinator garden plants are to start or extend a garden. We will accept 40 grants for each plant grant category.
The beach district plants being offered are hardy, drought-resistant, and can withstand excessive salt air and wind. Planting beach grass and other native dune plants help stabilize the dunes and offers a nice habitat for wildlife. Dune vegetation helps naturally build dunes as wind-blown sand becomes trapped and builds up the dunes over time.
A pollinator garden is specifically designed to attract pollinating bees, birds, butterflies, bats and other small mammals, as well as habitat enhancement, water quality improvement and erosion control. These gardens are a unique way to contribute to protecting the environment in Ocean City and they play an important role in keeping our community clean. The Ocean City’s Green Team is committed to promoting pollinator gardens as a Sustainable Maryland Action Item.
Applicants must be a Town of Ocean City resident or a residential property owner. The plants must be planted within the corporate limits of the Town of Ocean City.
Apply online at oceancitymd.gov/oc/departments/planning-community-development/environmental-mini-grants. The deadline for applications is Friday, April 12, 2024.
