Public Works/Maintenance

Maintenance Worker

Labor involves cleaning streets, boardwalk and beach of debris, painting curbs and street lines, installing signs and parking machines. Assists in all City special events and other maintenance duties as assigned. This position may require the employee to operate pick-up trucks, 4-wheel drive trucks, flat beds and other motor equipment up to 10 tons including bobcats, street brooms, beach tractors. Firefighter/EMS Clinician Positions

We are looking for skilled Firefighter/EMS clinicians to become full-time members of our team. Individuals must be at least 18 years of age and meet the following requirements at the time of application:

  1. High School Diploma or GED.
  2. Valid Maryland or National Registry EMT, or Paramedic license. Successful candidates must obtain Maryland license or certification within 30 days of employment.
  3. Maryland Firefighter 1 certification, National Pro-Board Firefighter 1 certification or equivalent at the time of application.

The Town of Ocean City MD and the Roland E Powell Convention Center seeks a qualified employee to direct the crew of building maintenance workers in housekeeping and setting up the Convention Center for events. Housekeeping consists of vacuuming office space, completely cleaning restrooms, washing windows, laundry duties, dumping trash as well as other duties as may be assigned. Setting up consists of draping tables, detailing meeting rooms prior to use and assisting in set up and tear down of events. Also transports freight and furniture, etc. Commitment to excellent customer service and a positive attitude is desired. Work is evaluated on the basis of adherence to instructions and actual results. Working knowledge of cleaning techniques, materials, equipment and safety regulations is preferred. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with assistance. High school diploma or GED with two years’ experience performing setup for various facility users or equivalent combination of education and experience. Fire Marshal’s Office

Fire Safety Inspector/Deputy Fire Marshal

The Ocean City Fire Department: Office of the Fire Marshal is responsible for proactive fire code enforcement, fire/explosive investigations and hazardous device response for the Town of Ocean City. The work of Deputy Fire Marshals assigned to the division varies widely, and may involve plans review and inspections for new and existing buildings, origin and cause investigations, courtroom testimony, bomb and hazmat response, and special projects/events assistance.

The Fire Safety Inspector is the entry-level/trainee position in the Fire Marshal’s Office, and will be responsible for code enforcement and origin/cause fire investigation assistance while obtaining the necessary education, training, and experience for required promotion to a sworn law enforcement position (Deputy Fire Marshal II). Duties and responsibilities commensurate with training, experience, and Departmental needs will be assigned as the team member prepares for promotion.

Schedule is predominantly day work (M-F) with rotating on-call status, and is subject to periodic evening/weekend assignments related to investigations and the Town’s various special events. Uniforms, equipment and training are provided at no cost to the employee; on-call Deputy Fire Marshals living in proximity to the Town of Ocean City are also provided with a take-home response vehicle.

Candidate must possess excellent customer service skills, strong organizational and communication skills and a high level of proficiency in oral, written, and digital communications. Entry-level candidates must have a valid driver’s license and some fire service/law enforcement education or experience.

Successful candidate should be capable of obtaining necessary certifications (Fire Inspector I/II, Fire Investigator, HazMat Technician) for promotion to DFM 1 within 18 months of employment, pending training availability and Departmental priorities. Candidates already possessing the necessary knowledge, training, certification and experience may be brought in at the DFM 1 or 2 grade, pending approvals.

Base annual salary range for position and promotional opportunities are:

Fire Safety Inspector: $39,194 to 62,360 (Entry Level)
Deputy Fire Marshal I: $47,167 to 75,045
Deputy Fire Marshal II: $51,741 to 82,323

Turf Equipment Manager

Eagles Landing Golf Course is set along the coastal bays of the Atlantic Ocean, just two miles from Ocean City, Maryland. The course is owned and operated by The Town of Ocean City, MD and is regarded as one of the best public golf courses in the Mid-Atlantic. We are currently seeking an experienced and professional golf course equipment manager. Qualified applicants will be required to operate, maintain and repair a wide variety of gasoline and diesel-powered equipment specific to the maintenance of a golf course at a high level of quality. The Equipment Manager will oversee the maintenance facility campus to be sure it is a clean, safe and professional working environment. The Equipment Manager is responsible for accurate fuel records, maintaining parts and supply inventories and facility upkeep. This individual will be required to perform golf course maintenance tasks as needed and will also occasionally make mosquito control applications.

Qualified applicants will have graduated high school, have some college, technical school or trade certification related to this position and no less than three to five years’ experience managing golf course maintenance equipment or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Golf course equipment reel adjusting and grinding experience is required. Must have a valid driver’s license, pass a pre-employment drug test and obtain a registered pesticide applicator certification within one year of hire.

A skilled mechanic’s position at a certified level involved in the maintenance and repair of gasoline and diesel equipment.
